LM's Bookshelf

I love going to people’s homes and seeing what’s on their bookshelves. It tells me so much about who they are and what’s important to them (including whether they own any books at all). I have bookcases in nearly every room of my home. They are cozy encasements for dear friends. Some of my book friends have been with me, still teaching me, since I was a teenager.

Between the bookends of my childhood and who I am today, I have literally spent years – both as a reader and an employee – in libraries.

I am an aisle-wanderer.  I use book titles as a divination tool. When I was still working as a librarian, yearning for liberation so I could create my own work, I vividly recall one day when my eyes fell on the title I Am Potent.  I may first find a book in a library, but if it becomes a true friend, then I have to own it. I read with pen in hand, underlining passages, scribbling notes and exclamation marks in the margins. We are in conversation with each other.

I am convinced that angels inhabit books. Some books in particular. They land in our laps just when we need most what they have to offer. Below are some of the many angels I have encountered in my journey through many pages. Maybe you have met some of them before yourself. These books represent my life-long interest in inspiration and enlightenment.

The vast topic of astrology, which fills more than a few of my bookshelves, is represented here solely by Steven Forrest, both because to name others would double this already overflowing list, and also because to leave him off of it would leave a gap in the works of my primary astrological teacher.

You can find these titles in bookstores or online. You may also find many of them in your local library – which I encourage you to visit, even just for some aisle-wandering. See which titles reach out to you.

A note about arrangement: it is my nature to buck systems that don’t work, and in this case, arranging these books by subject seems slippery. A book’s impact on me often defies classification. It may be a book of poetry, but it moves me spiritually. Or a book on spirituality may have a lasting effect on my relationships.

So, I will leave the Dewey Decimal System out of this. Here are some favorite books, in simple alphabetical order by author. More will be added as I remember (or meet new angels). Annotations and links (for ease) to follow, in time.
